GUELPH, ON — Mayoral candidate Ken Yee Chew is committing to bring forward a request within his first 100 days as Mayor for a comprehensive update to the incoming Council on Guelph’s existing Service Simplified customer service strategy, with a focus on service performance, operational improvements and findings from existing value-for-money audits.
Coordinated with Council and senior leadership, the update would help new and re-elected councillors assess progress, understand outstanding work and establish shared expectations for the coming term as a new body.
“Guelph has service standards and performance measures in place, and staff are continuing to improve how services are delivered,” said Chew. “Together, the next Council should take a closer look at that work, understand the results and assess whether our resources are delivering the best possible value for residents.”
Chew’s proposal would draw on existing standards, performance data, work plans and relevant reviews to give Council a clear picture of:
- Progress and outstanding work: What has been completed, what is underway and what has been deferred.
- Service performance: Whether existing measures demonstrate consistent, reliable service and clear communication with residents and businesses.
- Value for money: Findings and outstanding recommendations from relevant completed or planned reviews, including opportunities to improve service outcomes relative to costs.
- Operational improvements: Opportunities identified through operational reviews to simplify processes, reduce duplication and improve coordination between departments.
- Priorities and accountability: Which improvements should receive attention during the next term, with responsibilities, timelines, resource requirements and progress reporting clearly identified.
- Collaboration with Ward Councillors: Work directly with ward councillors to identify and rank priority capital improvements in their communities, informed by resident feedback, infrastructure condition, safety needs and available funding, for consideration through the City’s capital planning and budget processes
“Consistency, reliability and predictability should guide how City Hall serves people,” said Chew.
